NEW ULM &8212; The Albert Lea girls&8217; hockey team had its four-game win streak come to an end Thursday night in New Ulm when it lost to the Eagles 2-1 in a non-conference matchup.
The 15th-ranked Tigers went in front 1-0 in the first period when senior Morgan Walton scored a goal that was assisted by Jenna Christensen. It was a lead Albert Lea held throughout the period.
&8220;We can always learn from a loss like this,&8221; said Tigers head coach Brian Blatti. &8220;It&8217;s not always a bad thing to lose, it puts us in our place heading into the holiday tournament in Austin.&8221;
After pitching a shutout in the first period the Tigers surrendered goals in the second and third, both unassisted by the Eagles&8217; Korinne O&8217;Connor.
Although the Tigers outshot New Ulm 20-5 in the third period alone none of them found its mark and A.L. fell by one.
The Tigers will be back on the ice Thursday when they travel to Austin.
