Evalyn Hansen, 88, Blue Earth

Mrs. Evalyn J. Hansen, 88, of Blue Earth, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at United Hospital, Blue Earth. Memorial services were held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, with the Rev. Stephen Bohling and the Rev. Mark Wilms officiating. Burial will be in Hayward Cemetery, Hayward. Visitation time was one hour prior to services at the church. Evalyn was born June 17, 1919, at Hayfield, the daughter of John and Margaret (Maricle) Knapp.
She graduated from Austin High School in the mid 1930s and later taught school briefly before her marriage to Herbert A. Hansen on Feb. 5, 1939 in Chariton, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Albert Lea area before moving to Hayward in 1946, where they farmed for 19 years. They moved to Blue Earth in 1965 where Evalyn was a homemaker and was very active with the Trinity Lutheran Church, including with the annual Fair Stand, Ladies Circle and many other activities. Through the years she attended many woodcarving shows with her husband and made a lot of hardanger pieces and quilts. Evalyn had been a resident of New Life Manor since 1999 where she enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles with her many friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (& Jim) Abbas of Brooklyn Park, her son, John (& Jody) Hansen of Blue Earth, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herbert in 1999, a son, William S. Hansen in 1958, two sisters and one brother.
