Strong first half sends JM past Tigers

ROCHESTER &8212; The Rochester John Marshall boys&8217; basketball team got off to a fast start hitting seven of its first 12 shots from the floor to beat Albert Lea 65-46 Friday.

The Tigers were led by Sean Templeman and Evan Nolander who each had nine points while Brandon Antl had seven assists.

&8220;Both Sean and Evan had a real good week of practice and it showed on the floor,&8221; Tigers assistant coach Lucas Lee said.

Albert Lea fell behind 37-20 at halftime, but was able to close the gap in the second half by limiting the Rockets&8217; second chance points. JM had 12 offensive rebounds before halftime but just one in the second half.

Albert Lea (1-11) is back in action Friday when it travels to Mankato to take on the Scarlets.

USC 58, Randolph 43

WELLS &8212; The United South Central boys&8217; basketball team turned turnovers into points in the second half against Randolph, and as a result came away with the 58-43 win Friday.

The Rebels were led in scoring by Brian Hauge who poured in 18 points.

USC was up by just six at the break but got solid contributions from both the inside and outside to pull away in the second half.

The Rebels are now 5-8 on the season and break above the .500 mark in the Gopher Conference at 4-3.

Maple River 77, A-C 51

ALDEN &8212; The Alden-Conger boys&8217; basketball team lost to Class 2A No. 3

Maple River 77-51 Friday.

The Knights had their chances to make the game closer, but A-C missed several easy shots throughout.

Paul Little led the Knights recording a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards. Chad Peterson added 11 points and Sam Hallman had nine.

The Knights are back in action Monday at home when they face Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial.
