Virgil Lau, 80, Glenville

Funeral services for Virgil Lau, 80, of Glenville will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Glenville. The Rev. Gail Klavetter will officiate. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Virgil died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at his home.

Virgil Arthur Lau was born on Aug. 7, 1927, to Arthur and Ethel Lau in Northwood, Iowa. He attended country school and served in the United States Army during World War II. Virgil was united in marriage to Genevie Ione Knaack on Aug. 22, 1948, at Glenville First Lutheran. He was a lifelong resident of Freeborn County. Virgil was very dedicated to farming. He retired from actively farming in 1991 but continued to help his son-in-law farm. Virgil was a member of First Lutheran Church in Glenville since 1948 and was also a member of the Eagle&8217;s Lodge in Albert Lea. He enjoyed the time he spent visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Genevie; daughter, Susan (Steve) Heideman; son, Danny (Joann) Lau; grandchildren, Aaron (Emmy) Williamson, Blake Heideman, Lindy Heideman and fianc/ Adam Fredrickson, Marty (Kathy) Lau, Jenny (Paul) Berg, Kris (Jenny) Lau, and Jason Sencer; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Willis (Phyllis) Lau, and Archie (Lois) Lau; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janice (Jim) Lembke, Bonnie (Ronnie) Rasmusson, Kathryn (Carol) Hanson and Arlene Knaack; many nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; mother and father-in-law; sister, Madeline Hulshizer; brothers-in-law, Aldon Holstad and Richard Knaack; nephews, Stephen Holstad and Jim Lau; several aunts and uncles.

Virgil will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
