Anne died on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.
Anne Chapek was born Sept. 3, 1909, in Czechoslovakia, to John Vomacka Sr. and Anna (Shebbal) Vomacka. She came to America at the age of three with her mother and her brother John, to be reunited with her father who came previously to find a new home for them. Anne attended rural schools in Freeborn County. On Dec. 21, 1927, she was united in marriage to Louis Chapek in Albert Lea. Five children were born to this union: two sons, Arthur and Alvin, and three daughters Louise, Genevieve and Joyce.
In November of 1967 Anne and Louis moved to Albert Lea. She belonged to the Assemblies of God Church and her faith was very important to her. Her husband Louis died Feb. 12, 1973. She continued to live in the same residence until January of 2000 and then lived with her daughters until going to the Good Samaritan Center in March of 2002. Anne was a generous, kind person and very appreciative for any acts of kindness shown her. She will also be remembered for her Czech baking, and canning of garden produce and the poultry she raised. She delighted in her flowers and enjoyed watching the birds and hearing them sing. Her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special joy to her.
Survivors include: daughters Louise Peterson of rural Blooming Prairie, Genevieve and husband William Kruger of rural Conger, and Joyce Peterson of Albert Lea; grandchildren Allan Chapek, Jeffrey Peterson, Laurie (Peterson) Jeddeloh, Denise Peterson, Kim Peterson, Ronald Kruger, Debra (Kruger) Mortensen, Robert Kruger, Katherine Kruger, Jeanette (Chapek Stahl) Burton and William Chapek; 16 great- grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; five great-great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild; one brother Stanley Vomacka of White Bear Lake; sisters Mrs. Melder (Rose) Foss of London and Mrs. Victor (Alice) Kycek of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Louis; her sons Arthur Chapek and Alvin Chapek; grandsons Andrew Chapek, Randolph Chapek and Gary Peterson; granddaughter Pamela Peterson; brothers Benjamin, John Jr. and Frank Vomacka; sisters Libby Pacovsky and Georgia Kusy; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mrs. Frank (Mary) Vomacka, Charley Pacovsky, Eddie Kusy, Victor Kycek, and Melder Foss, son-in-law Richard Peterson and great grandson Randy Lee Stahl II.
Anne will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center or to the donor&8217;s choice.
