Freeborn County 4-Hers Share the Fun

Sixty Freeborn County 4-H&8217;ers performed during the annual Share-the-Fun program April 6 in the Southwest Little Theatre.

Guests of 4-H were entertained by different readings, skits, singing, dancing, instrumentals, a group musical and some miscellaneous acts. The Freeborn County Ambassadors were the hosts and hostesses for the afternoon.

The winner in the vocal category was Molly Wagner of the Hayward 4-H Club with her song called &8220;They Prayed.&8221;

This is a song that Molly had composed herself.

The alternate winner in the vocal category was &8220;Love Me Tender&8221; sung by Autumn Peterson of the Freeborn 4-H Club.

In the instrumental category Laura Gaudian and Caleb Gaudian of the Hayward 4-H Club won with their piano piece titled &8220;Caprice.&8221; The alternate instrumental winner was &8220;Great Escape&8221; by Sam Johnson of the Myrtle 4-H Club.

&8220;I am the cat, I am the dog&8221; recited by Addie Wager and Derek Wagner of the Hayward 4-H Club took first place in the readings with &8220;Lunch Ladies&8221; by Kristen Hahn of the of the Hayward 4-H Club coming in as alternate. Kristen also wrote her reading. In the short play or skit category &8220;Timid Page Turner&8221; by Anna Englin and Julia Otten of the Hayward 4-H Club won. The &8220;Hole in the Bucket&8221; by Betsy Wagner and Philipp Wagner also of the Hayward 4-H Club came in as alternate.

&8220;Robotic 4-H&8221; performed by the Hayward 4-H Club won the miscellaneous category with &8220;Addie&8217;s Dance&8221; by Addie Wagner of the Hayward 4-H Club coming in as alternate. The group musical winner was &8220;Chicken Concerto&8221; performed by the Hayward 4-H Club.

The judges selected Anna Englin and Julia Otten with their performance of the &8220;Timid Page Turner&8221; as the recipient of the Funny Bone Award.

The Best Props Award went to the Hayward 4-H Club for the skit titled, &8220;Robotic 4-H.&8221; The 4-H Spirit Award went to Hartland 4-H Club for the skit, &8220;Deal or No Deal.&8221;

The Grow Green Awards went out to any first time performer in the Share-the-Fun program.

There were 13 new performers this year.

The judges selected &8220;They Prayed&8221; by Molly Wagner of the Hayward 4-H Club as the State Fair Winner. Molly will have the opportunity to perform her song at the Minnesota State Fair as well as during the Freeborn County Fair.

Molly Wagner was also the recipient of the Shelli Arends Memorial Award.

Shellrock 4-H has donated a traveling plaque that is given to the State Fair winner each year.

This plaque was started in Shelli&8217;s memory in 1998. Shelli was a big part of the 4-H program as fair time was her vacation and looked forward to it every year. She was also the Ambassador Advisor for many years. Shelli loved 4-H and she inspired everyone who was around her. There is also a flowerbed that is planted each year which is in front of the yellow 4-H building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds in memory of her as well. Shelli was a big part of the Freeborn County 4-H program. With her big heart and her love for the 4-H program in her memory this plaque is presented.

Judges for the afternoon were Mark Behrends, Kay Madsen and Pat Mulso, all of Albert Lea.
