Lila Whiteaker, 89, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Lila E. Whiteaker of Fairfax, S.C., formerly of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church Chapel of Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
Lila was born June 18, 1918, in Eagle Bend, to Charles N. and Rhoda Winjum. She was a graduate of Albert Lea High School in 1936 and worked for the Albert Lea Tribune for seven years in advertising. She married Frank E. Whiteaker on Dec. 25, 1943, in Albert Lea. Lila passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008, in Fairfax, S.C.
She is survived by one son William (Bill) Whiteaker and his wife Susan (Wichman) Whiteaker of Fairfax, S.C.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Land and her husband Greg of Westminster, S.C. and Michael Whiteaker and his wife Amanda (Seegers) of Fairfax, S.C.; one great-grandchild, Cameron Land; one sister, Dorothy Slette of Albert Lea; and several special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank; one sister Mildred R. Dusek; and two brothers-in-law, Edward Dusek and Curtis Slette.
Lila had resided in Fairfax, S.C., for the past 3 1/2 years living with her son and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed not only her grandchildren but her very special great-grandchild, Cameron. She will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, or Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfax, S.C.
