NEW RICHLAND &8212; The United South Central softball team is peaking at just the right time.
The Rebels (11-8) are finally putting it all together as they completed a successful season with a 10-3 rout of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Thursday afternoon in New Richland.
&8220;We started the year with a lot of holes to fill,&8221; said Rebels head coach Brad Huse. &8220;But I think as the season has wore on the girls are finally getting used to playing their positions.&8221;
And while the 11-8 record sounds pretty good, Huse can&8217;t help but wonder what might have been. In five of USC&8217;s eight losses this season the Rebels led in the seventh inning.
&8220;That&8217;s been the difference the last couple of weeks,&8221; Huse said. &8220;We are finishing the games and winning the ones we should win.&8221;
Kellie Robbins continues to be a dominant presence on the mound as the junior hurler went the distance with six strikeouts and just one walk allowed.
USC put the game away by scoring all 11 runs in the first four innings and led by as much as 11-1 until the Panthers pushed two runs across in the sixth.
USC, the No. 4 seed in sections, will travel to Jordan Tuesday for the opening round of the section playoffs to face LeCenter/Cleveland. The Panthers got the seventh seed and will travel to Waseca for a match-up with the host Bluejays.
