The bats had some pop in them Thursday night for the Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 baseball team, but they couldn’t overcome a seven-run third inning by the Rochester A’s in a 10-8 loss at Hayek Field.
The Tigers had a tough time going in the early innings and the A’s took a 9-2 lead after three innings, but eventually played their way back into the game in the fifth inning.
Albert Lea scored two runs and loaded the bases in the fifth for Joel Eisenbraun who delivered a shot to left field for a grand slam home run to put the Tigers within a run at 9-8.
“We finally got some hits and it seemed like everybody got going,” Eisenbraun said.
Rochester went on to add a run in the top of the seventh for the 10-8 final.
Logan Kortan started on the mound for Albert Lea and struggled early, but settled down to throw three shutout innings after the seven-run third for the A’s.
“Logan had one bad inning,” Tigers coach Boyd Eisenbraun said. “He got frustrated.”
Kortan walked five in the third and three came around to score.
Anthony Tippett continued his hot-hitting with a 2-for-2 night with a two-run double in the second inning.
