Devan Miller and Eric Volkman of Albert Lea High School have been awarded $50 scholarships form Church Women United.

Devan is the daughter of Jeff and Lori Miller and a 2008 graduate of Albert Lea High School. She plans to attend Bethany Lutheran College and major in Elementary Education.

In high school, Miller was active in choir, chorale, Link Crew, National Honor Society and Service Club. She also volunteers at Kidzone, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Eric is the son of Neil and Mary Jo Volkman, and is also a 2008 graduate of Albert Lea High School. Eric plans to attend Augsburg College and major in business or engineering.

In high school, Volkman was active in tennis, BPA, band, pep band and National Honor Society. Eric volunteers in Fire Explorers and First Lutheran Church.

Church Women United is made up of women from various churches who meet four times a year with a theme for each session. A salad luncheon in May and personal donations are used to fund the scholarships.
