A large amount of cash was reported missing from Hy-Vee gas Sunday morning when the business opened just before 5 a.m., according to police reports.

Reports stated an alarm call came in at about 1 a.m. Sunday, and the building was reported to be secure. The keyholder did not check out the building, however.

When the business opened a few hours later, a large amount of cash — the amount still unknown — was reported missing from both the ATM machine and the register, according to reports.

They used burglary tools to break in, Lt. Phil Bartusek said.

“These guys knew what they were doing,” he said.

A McDonald’s employee told police there were two people leaving the building after the alarm went off.

The suspect vehicle is a full-size Chevy four-door pickup that is tan in color with an orange construction ladder sticking out of it.

Bartusek said it is believed the suspects gained entry through the car wash and then a service door into the business.

Two boys arrested for multiple car break-ins

Police arrested two 16-year-old boys Monday morning after receiving a call of a car break-in south of Front Street in the Belmont Street and First Avenue area, according to police reports.

Officers caught the boys once they arrived in the area.

Police Lt. Phil Bartusek said officers at the scene estimated that at least 13 vehicles were broken into. They also attempted to start one on fire, he said.

The boys were charged with second-degree arson, gross misdemeanor theft, first-degree criminal damage, possession of stolen property and tampering with a motor vehicle, Bartusek said.

They are being held in jail awaiting an appearance in court.

Statues reported stolen

Two lawn statues were reported stolen from a porch on the 1000 block of James Ave. at 10:45 a.m. Friday, reports stated.

Woman arrested for DWI

Police arrested Tracy Leedob Roberts, 37, for fourth-degree DWI Saturday at 2:08 a.m. after police received word of a fight near the intersection of West Clark Street and South Ermina Avenue, reports stated.

Damage to doors at residence

Damage was reported to both a front door and a garage door at a residence on the 900 block of South Fourth Avenue at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to police reports.
