Kiester, Morin Lake Days festivities are this week

This small town in Faribault County will be filled with a variety of activities Thursday through Sunday for Kiester Days.
Kiester Days begins with a free kickoff picnic at 5 p.m. on Main Street. Donations will be accepted for the USC Marching Rebels.
The following day the Lions Club will hold a steak fry from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall and from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. a street dance will take place at Forever Berma’s.
Participants will toss cow chips on Main Street starting at 5 p.m. Friday for cow chip bingo.
Kee Lanes will be full of entertainment Friday and Saturday. It will offer cosmic bowling from 8 p.m. to midnight both nights. Bowlers can participate in a laser show.
There will be a parade beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and during the day there will be sand volleyball and softball tournaments taking place. The American Legion Hall will have a full slate, too.
The Legion will host a cribbage tournament from 1 to 3 p.m. and then from 5 to 8 p.m. host another steak fry.
Kiester also will hold a classic car show on June 21.
According to Kiester Civic and Commerce Secretary Gloria Pederson, the band, Led Penny, is expected to play for the event in the Kee Theatre. The band commonly plays music from the ’60s and often has former U.S. Rep. Tim Penny play along.
At 9 a.m. Sunday the event will end with a community church service in the city park. Bring your own chair.
Morin Lake Days
ALDEN — This same weekend Alden and Conger will buzz with excitement as the communities celebrate Morin Lake Days. This year’s event theme is “Get Fit & Feel Great in 2008.”
New to the scene of the celebration is a weight-loss challenge that began in March and ended last week. Sixteen teams, comprising 71 people, joined efforts to see which teams could reach a healthier weight and feel better.
From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the picnic shelter near Morin Lake Park there will be an ice cream and pie social. Randy & Kathy Burris — known as “American Pie” — will perform that evening in a two-set show. They will entertain the crowd with ’50s and ’60s rock and classic country.
Beginning at noon Friday the Medallion Hunt begins, clues will be posted on the front door of the City Hall each day at noon until the medallion is found. The prize for the contest is $50. From 1:30 to 4 p.m. the Lions Club will hold a youth fishing contest at Morin Park.
From 5 to 7:30 p.m. the Alden Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will serve supper by Lake Morin. For $6 you can either have pork patties or Conger hot dogs served with beans, salad, bars and pop. The evening will include a Kiddie Parade, FFA Kiddie Tractor Pull, a silent auction and a softball tournament.
On Saturday the day begins with the Methodist Church women serving coffee and treats from 8 to 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church.
At 9 a.m. Saturday Morin Lake Days will hold the Alden Fun Run, a 10-kilometer run. There will be softball and volleyball tournaments, food stands, a silent auction, a horseshoe tournament through much of the day, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Alden Museum will be open for self-guided tours.
At 7 p.m. Alden will have the Morin Lake Days parade. Following the parade in the lake parking lot entertainment will be provided by “Best of the Alden Idol” and “A-C Aces.” There will be a teen street dance and an American Legion Street Dance from 8:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday night. At dusk fireworks will be set off over Morin Lake.
From 8 a.m. to noon Sunday the Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast. Serving pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice and coffee. Starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Morin Lake boat landing a community church service will be held. Bring your own lawn chair.
