2 men wearing masks rob Albert Lea motel

Law enforcement officials from the Albert Lea Police Department, the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol responded Tuesday to reports of an armed robbery at the Super 8 Motel in Albert Lea.
According to an Albert Lea Police Department news release, at about 9:17 p.m. Tuesday, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the motel.
Witnesses on the scene stated two people, one Caucasian and one Hispanic, who were both wearing ski masks, entered the motel, showed a box-cutter and possibly another weapon, and demanded money.
The suspects fled the motel with an undisclosed amount of cash prior to an officer arriving at the motel, the news release stated.
Nobody was injured.
Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels said that while responding to the incident one officer in a squad car collided with another vehicle near the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Main Street. There were two or three other vehicles that were also involved in the wreck, he said.
The State Patrol is investigating the incident, Winkels said.
