Letter: Walz looking for energy options

I am responding to a recent letter by Mr. Charles Foster regarding “Big Oil.” I believe he was confused when talking about eliminating “the total profits of the major oil companies” in his letter aimed at criticizing Congressman Tim Walz’s guest column on increasing Big Oil accountability. I’m not sure where this idea came from, nor his math breaking down the cost of a gallon of gas. Congressman Walz never advocated we eliminate the total profits of oil companies, but he did address cracking down on price-gouging by Big Oil.
Mr. Foster must think it is OK for oil companies to make huge profits and report record earnings year after year while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet. I believe Congressman Walz is looking for both short- and long-term solutions and invest in developing efficient and economical energy resources to decrease our dependence on oil.
I believe Congressman Walz is offering sensible solutions to cut down on speculating and price-gouging, and is working for all of us suffering from the high cost of oil.
