Minnesota Farmers Union has announced it has awarded its 2007-08 “Farm and Rural Legislative Award” to Sen. Dan Sparks (DFL-Austin).
Minnesota Farmers Union presented the award to Sparks, who is vice-chairman of the Economic Development and Commerce Committees, for his leadership on energy issues.
Minnesota Farmers Union President Doug Peterson said, “Besides being the vice-chair of two important committees, Sen. Sparks also plays a key role on the Energy Committee representing a rural district that will benefit from aggressive energy policies.”
Sparks also successfully worked with Rep. Robin Brown to pass legislation that allows for the property tax agricultural homestead treatment to be extended to brothers and sisters and secured funding for the rural policy and development center.
In presenting the award to Sen. Sparks, Minnesota Farmers Union takes into consideration his voting record on agricultural issues, committee work, and his work with area farmer-members from his district.
