Walz should get work done in Washington

Are you tired of politicians who pander to the voters at election time but don’t get anything done while they are in Congress? Recently, Congressman Tim Walz said he wanted to cut taxes on the middle class by raising taxes on others. Why doesn’t Congressman Walz just get back to work and solve the energy crisis, which we know will help the middle class?

When you see Congressman Walz on the street, ask him if he’s in favor of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and off the outer continental shelf. I am! There are billions of barrels of oil in those places — enough to power our country for years. We have the technology to tap into our natural resources in an environmentally responsible way, but Congress refuses to lift the ban on drilling.

You can also ask the congressman if he’s in favor of new nuclear energy plants. Five years ago, I addressed the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and asked for its support to lift the moratorium on new nuclear power facilities. It’s the most efficient and clean power source available and it’s inexpensive for consumers.

At the same time, for 17 years I’ve been working as a state senator to develop alternative energy such as wind, solar and biofuels. I’m proud Minnesota has been one of our nation’s leaders in developing wind energy and biofuels.

If Congressman Walz really wants to help the middle class, he needs to get back to work in Washington, D.C., and solve our energy crisis.
