Weekend Planner: First memorial softball tournament this weekend

The Ryan “Pie” Truesdell first memorial softball tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at J.M. Snyder Field in Albert Lea. In addition to the games, there will be food, fun, a raffle and a silent auction.

Events will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday with a softball game challenge between the Albert Lea City Council and city staff versus the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners and county staff. A silent auction and food will be set up starting that evening.

There will be an opening ceremony right before, at 6:45 p.m.

The main softball and volleyball tournaments will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 12

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 320 W. College St., Albert Lea, will hold its bazaar and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch, featuring vegetable beef soup, sloppy joes, pie and coffee will be served for $6 per person. There will also be a raffle drawing for a full-size quilt. Funds raised will be donated to missions and the to Women’s Mission Society.

The Barb Butler art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

The Women of the Moose will sponsor a street dance featuring Rocket Dawgs at the Albert Lea Moose Family Center from 6 p.m. to midnight. Food will be served from 6 to 11 p.m. and the dance will run from 8 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $5 per person. Proceeds will be donated to the Rushford Community Foundation for Flood Relief Victims.

The Pelican Breeze II will host a pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m.; call 383-2630.

The Prairie River Camp corn maze, three miles south of Interstate 90 on Highway 253, will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for ages 12 and older, $3 for ages 5 to 11 and children 4 and younger get in free. There is a family rate of $18.

Saturday, Sept. 13

The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.

The Barb Butler art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

The Prairie River Camp corn maze, three miles south of Interstate 90 on Highway 253, will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for ages 12 and older, $3 for ages 5 to 11 and children 4 and younger get in free. There is a family rate of $18.

Sunday, Sept. 14

The Albert Lea Masonic Lodge, 147 N. Broadway Ave., will host an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in conjuction with the Humane Society of Freeborn County. Scrambled eggs, sausage, juice and coffee will also be served.

The Pelican Breeze II will host a brunch cruise from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m. Saturday; call 383-2630.
