Candidates should speak at forums

I read the letter of recommendation for Ryan Sabinish. I do not live in the ward where he and Ellen Kehr are running to represent. Because of that, I do not have “a dog in that fight.” That being said, it was interesting that the writer commented that Ryan would be one to give answers or find answers if he did not have them.
I wonder then, why he was not at the candidate forum to answer questions or to at least, state his position? It would appear that a candidate for a city position should be willing to attend and speak at a forum where his or her constituents may be present. I believe if I were in that ward, I would have to vote for the person willing to stand up and be counted.
