Mae Thofson

Mae Alice Thofson, 83, Northwood, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.
A funeral service for Mae will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 104-3rd Ave. SW, Glenville, with the Rev. Krista Stokke officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.
Mae Alice Thofson was born on March 12, 1925, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Robert and Ann (Myran) Burns. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at the West Freeborn Lutheran Church in Manchester. Mae attended school in Manchester and attended Freeborn High School. She was united in marriage to George C. Thofson on Aug. 8, 1941, in Manchester. After their marriage together they farmed in rural Manchester until 1950 when they moved to Gordonsville. In 1963, Mae began working for Land O’ Lakes Company in Albert Lea, working for them for 25 years until her retirement.
Mae enjoyed going to auctions, playing cards at the senior citizens center in Glenville, working in her yard especially raking her leaves, flowers, and loved to sit in her back yard drinking coffee and watching her leaves fall, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Glenville and was a member and former treasurer at the Senior Citizens Center in Glenville.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Gloria Hall of Glenville, Viola (Dale) Braun of Emporia, Kan., Steven (Dawn) Thofson of Northwood, Mitchell (Barb) Thofson of Kingman, Ariz., George (Cindy) Thofson of Glenville, and Marlene Overton and special friend Kurt of Boone, Grandchildren; Robert (Cathy) Braun of Ames, Yvette (Joe) Kramer of Pocahontas, Luther (Amy) Braun of Topeka, Kan., Joshua (Stephanie) Braun of Ankeny, Roger “Chip” (Dawn) Hall of Glenville, Ranger (Michelle) Hall of Glenville, Tracey (Robin) Haines of Glenville, Chad Thofson of Denver, Colo., Chris (Heather) Thofson of Northwood, Tim (Missy) Thofson of Northwood, Megan Thofson of Northwood, Jessica (Jon) Berry of Glenville, Katie Thofson and special friend Chris Chodur of Northwood, Michael Thofson of Glenville, Damon (Amber) Obanion of Kingman, Ariz., Casey (Alicia) Fillion of Kingman, Ariz., Larry (Aftin) Ellis of Kingman, Ariz., Kristy (Matt) Ryan of Boone, and Justin Overton and special friend Sarah Madson of Boone, 37 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, two sisters; Sonja (David) Hanson of Brandon, S.D., and Patty Shonka of Minneapolis, as well as many nieces and nephews, as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George C. Thofson, son, George M. Thofson, grandson, Jared Braun, and a great grandson, John Haines.
