The streak came to an end for the United South Central No. 1 doubles team of Kellie Robbins and Molly Yokiel Tuesday in the section 2AA tournament at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Robbins and Yokiel won their semifinal match against Taylor Volk and Tina Aarsvold 6-2, 6-2 to get them to a championship match against Anna Dreismane and Kayla Trocke. Yokiel and Robbins dropped the match 5-7, 3-6.
The loss put them in a match for a true second place winner. They lost 2-6, 3-6 against Maple River’s Sara Anderson and Mandi Stencel, giving them a third place finish.
“(In) their Saint Peter match everything was flowing,” Rebels head coach Kim Johnson said. “The next two weren’t exactly their ‘A’ game but they didn’t get a lot of breaks either.”
Yokiel and Robbins finished 22-2 on the season.
Ali Ramsely finished fourth on the individual side.
Ramsely lost her semifinal match against Heather Annis from Maple River 0-6, 1-6 and then lost 4-6, 4-6 against Maura Flaherty.
“She hit impressively,” Johnson said. “The scores don’t really reflect, she played a lot deuces.
“For her as a sophomore, in the top four is a great place for her to be.”
