Bridge Avenue needs a stoplight

Ahh, Bridge Avenue article after article, expert after expert. Opinions of the city officials.

Does no one see the need for a traffic light at the mall or the street between Hy-Vee and Shopko? It is never mentioned in talks about future plans. Only those of us who work out there seem to be aware of the risks of turning left onto Bridge Avenue from the mall or grocery store. It’s bad enough on a normal day at busier times, but heaven help us all if it is snowing, blowing, raining or foggy.

Again today, I turned left out of the mall and saw a white van driving in the blowing snow without lights only after I started my turn.

Isn’t there a law about using your lights in the above-mentioned weather conditions? I’ve never seen a single person ever pulled over for this violation; they are certainly creating a hazard.

Here’s an idea: Create a lane for those people who can’t seem to drive over 30 no matter what the speed limit; today, as I went to work, the going speed was 25 from Hawthorne to the mall. I was the 10th car behind the person who shouldn’t be driving at all. Herein lies a large part of the traffic problem.
