Melanie Bloom has taken over the role of anchor for ABC 6 News “Good Morning” weekdays from 5:30 to 7 a.m.
News Director Mike Schram expressed his confidence in Melanie. “After a thorough search and numerous interviews, we found our best candidate already working on the ABC 6 News team. Melanie joined the staff in October 2007 and did an excellent job as producer for our 5 p.m. newscast. She is a talented, resourceful and versatile member of our team.”
Bloom is a native Minnesotan and is happy to be back in her home state after working as a reporter and anchor at KOLN-KGIN in Lincoln, Neb. She was actually born in Austin and spent most of her life in St. Paul. Bloom graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in broadcast journalism and gained valuable experience at the on-campus television station, UTVS.
“Over the years, I have been fortunate to have a front row seat to many incredible news stories including presidential visits and troop deployments to Iraq. One of my most rewarding assignments was covering the devastating EF-5 tornado that demolished the town of Greensburg, Kan., in May of 2007. I followed volunteers who traveled from Nebraska to Kansas to help with the search for survivors and clearing away mountains of debris. I am excited about my new role as news anchor for ABC 6 News “Good Morning” and being part of this Emmy Award-winning team.”
