Teams gear up for 3rd Albert Lea Hockey Day

The third annual Albert Lea Hockey Day, sponsored by the Albert Lea Amateur Hockey Association, will be Saturday at the City Arena.
There will be hockey games all day starting at 8 a.m. with the last game set to begin at 7:45 p.m. The Albert Lea High School boys’ hockey team will play Rochester Lourdes at 2 p.m.
There will be skills competitions in the morning and tailgating in the parking lot will start at 11:30 a.m. People can purchase a hot dog and pop for $2.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase all day long at the arena for $10 each. First place is $2,500 cash. Second place is a 52-inch television. Third place is a certificate for a new 500cc Roketa scooter. There will be seven more winners for prizes, gift cards and cash. The drawing will be held at 5 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 6
The Minnesota State Spring Barrow Show will be held at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds in Albert Lea. Judging of junior pens of three will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Registration for the judging contest runs from 8 to 9 a.m. with the actual contest from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. Junior individuals will be judged from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Junior derby barrow judging is from 1:15 to 2 p.m. Judging of truck lots takes place from 2:15 to 3 p.m. Open individual judging is from 3 to 4 p.m. The sweepstakes winner will be announced at 4 p.m.
Albert Lea Community Theatre will present “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. For tickets, call 377-4371.
Saturday, Feb. 7
The Tiger City Farm Toy Truck & Collectible Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.
The Humane Society of Freeborn County will hold a pet adoption day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Animal Shelter in Frank Hall Park.
The Glenville-Emmons Post-Prom Committee will serve a pork chop supper from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion. Pork chop, salad, baked beans, corn, bread and a variety of bars will be served for $8 per person. There will be a kids (12 and younger) hot dog meal served for $3. All proceeds will be used to promote a safe prom night.
South Central Minnesota Pheasants Forever will hold its banquet at the Albert Lea Ramada Inn. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and special events start at 8 p.m. For tickets, call Mark Fenstermacher at 377-6240 or 402-2901.

Sunday, Feb. 8
The Albert Lea Masonic Lodge, 147 N. Broadway Ave., will host an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee will be served. Members of the Shrine Auxiliary will serve. There will also be a bake sale. People attending are asked to bring a canned food item for the food shelf.
Pack 11 will hold a Scout Sunday breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. French toast, scrambled eggs and ham will be served for a donation.
