Accentra Credit Union recently welcomed mentors and mentees from Community Mentor Connection and STARS Mentor Program to the facility in Albert Lea for a tour of the latest technologies in banking.
Everyone was invited to bring their piggy banks and run their coins through the coin counter. They took their receipts to the remote teller station and received crisp new currency, including some $2 bills. Many were amazed at how those nickels, dimes and quarters added up.
Lisa Reese, Accentra Credit Union’s branch manager, answered questions about savings accounts, credit cards, safety deposit boxes, vaults, and the difference between credit unions and banks.
Carolyn Smith, mentoring coordinator, said. “This was a wonderful activity for us all. We talked about the importance of doing well in math and perhaps a few of our mentees might even begin to think about a career in a finance field.”
Accentra also provided pizza for the group and made a donation to the mentoring programs.
Reese, along with two other financial service officers, Laura Geffert and Andrea Squier, thanked the group for coming and also thanked the mentors for their time and effort. “We also learned a lot!” she said.
