The Albert Lea Tigers “C,” or ninth grade team split a doubleheader with Austin in their first outing of the season.
In the first game the Tigers lead most of the game on strong pitching by Travis Moffit, but typical first game jitters and untimely errors led to some late inning runs by the Packers that cost the Tigers the game 9-7.
Notables in the game were Griffin Wangen at catcher, Trey Hable at shortstop, and Andrew Hernandez in right field, who got his first hit and RBI of the year.
The second game of the night was a whole different story for the young Tigers.
The bats came alive for the Tigers in the second game as they knocked out 10 hits and scored 12 runs in a 12-5 win over the Packers.
Wyeth Anderson worked through some first inning jitters and put in a strong- complete-game performance at pitcher.
Other notables in the game were Jordan Johnson at catcher who smashed a long double in the second inning, scoring two runs for the Tigers. Cody Riedlinger played well at second base, came up with a great behind the back catch behind first base to end the game, and to the entire defense for the Tigers which eliminated many of the costly errors from the first game to secure the win.
The next game for the Tigers is April 14 as they travel to Faribault for a doubleheader. The next home game is Thursday against Winona at the Hammer Field baseball complex.
