USC/A-C boys’ track continues winning

The boys’ track team continued its winning ways, and the girls also made a good showing at the St. James Invitational last Tuesday.
In spite of scoring no points in the 100 meter dash or 200 meter dash in either the girls or boys competition, the Rebels scored enough in the other events to make a good showing as a team.
“Our sprinters are a little nicked up right now,” said USC/A-C head coach Kent Viesselman. “Even though we were lucky enough to have the meet on the warmest day in the last couple of weeks, it was still chilly for the sprinters and hurdlers, especially in the second half of the meet. We went into the meet with some ‘brittle’ hamstrings, so we were pretty careful. There were several cases in both the girls and the boys teams, where we elected to scratch individuals in their second and third events.”
Ciara Christenson led the way for the Rebel girls, winning both hurdle events. Hannah Goemann added a win in the 800-meter run, and Amber Erickson finished first in the 3200-meter run to account for the Rebel’s first place finishes.
Seth Treptow improved by two seconds over his best time a year ago in the 300 hurdles to win that event.
E.J. Knight finished first in the triple jump, and Jonathan Back took the Discus. The other USC/A-C first place finish was in the 4×800 relay, where Jay Staloch, Tom Allis, Matthew Wood, and Riley Swearingen led the way in that event.
“The competition was definitely up a notch from our two indoor meets,” Viesselman said. “Blue Earth Area has a very good girls team, and the boys teams from G-F-W, St. Peter, St. James, and Redwood Valley all have some outstanding individuals.”
