Albert Lea boys’ golf leaves room to improve with finish at Fairmont

As the season draws to end for the Albert Lea boys’ golf team, head coach Riley Worth has yet to see that killer instinct the team will need in the conference meet which begins in one week.
The results have been good for the Tigers as they finished tied for third with Austin at the Cardinal Invite Saturday in Fairmont.
Albert Lea shot 327, but one stroke back of Marshall, who shot 326 to take second. Fairmont won the meet with a 320.
“We need to play with a little more sense of purpose,” Worth said. “We’re nearing the end of the season and we don’t have guys breaking 80. I feel like they’re starting to be OK with low 80s.”
While the team has scored consistently throughout much of the season, Worth believes there’s room for improvement.
Tyler Haaland finished eighth overall at the meet with a team-low score of 80. He also beat Blue Earth’s Jon Trasamar, a University of Minnesota recruit, for the second time this season. Haaland shot 41 on the front, but came back strongly on the back for a 39 which tied with three other players as the lowest back nine total.
Tyler Brackey shot 39-42 to finish with an 81 while Sam Matheson and Casey Marka shot 83s for Albert Lea.
The Tigers travel to Blue Earth Monday and finish the regular season in Mankato against Mankato West and Owatonna Tuesday at the Mankato Country Club.
