Running in the finals at the state track and field meet is a pressure situation, but that wasn’t the case for Lake Mills freshman Haley Krull.
After Krull reached the finals of the Iowa state meet at Drake University in Des Moines in the 100 and 200-meter dash events the pressure was off and she turned in career bests in both events as she placed second in the 200 with a time of 25.76. She finished second to Stephanie Nordyke of Lineville-Clio, who tied a state record with a time of 24.99.
Her second place finish came after she placed third in the 100 finals. Krull ran a 12.94.
“She definitely took advantage of the situation and put up some of her best times,” said Bulldogs head coach Kristen Wempen.
Krull’s performance capped off a strong meet for Lake Mills as it placed 17th overall in the Class 1A meet. The 4×200 relay team of Krull, Haley Mathews, Ali Dugger and Darcy Nelson placed seventh and the 4×800 relay team shattered a school record by nearly 10 seconds.
The Northwood-Kensett boys’ track team had its 4×100 relay team place at the state meet.
The 4×100 relay team of Erik Reyerson, Jayson Olson, Spencer Capitani
and Sam Arnold placed eighth with a time of 44.94
