The Jaycees are coming back to Freeborn County.

This organization is designed for young people between the ages of 18 and 40 to promote personal and professional development by serving the community.

“The purpose is to build leaders by doing community service,” said Danielle Nesvold, Jaycees regional director. “Through community service people become leaders by planning, organizing and actually doing.”

Bringing the Jaycees organization back to Freeborn County was initiated by Brady Gooden of American Family Insurance in Albert Lea. Gooden visited other organizations and found there was a lack of young people involved. He then looked further into the Jaycees organization through the Chamber of Commerce and a friend who is involved in a Jaycees chapter.

“I hope it’ll give young people who are working in the community and the area a chance to get involved in and get people connected,” said Gooden. “It’s definitely a good thing and it’ll open doors for people.”

The Freeborn County Jaycees is holding a membership social on June 18 at 6 p.m. at the Moose Lodge. This event will provide potential members with basic information, and benefits Jaycees has to individuals, communities, and businesses.

“This group can be completely unique by having smaller communities connect with Freeborn County,” said Nesvold. “That connection will bring different interests and ideas, and it’ll show that everyone has a value.”
