Harold Pepperling

Graveside services for Harold E. Pepperling, age 86, of Hollandale, will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Hollandale Cemetery. The Rev. Neal Ooms will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by area veteran’s organizations.
Harold died Monday, June 8, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Harold Edward Pepperling was born on Oct. 6, 1922, in Hampton, Iowa, to Edward and Carrie (Elliot) Pepperling. Harold moved to the Hollandale area with his family in 1925. After school he served in the United States Army during World War II in Rhineland and Central Europe. On April 18, 1947, he was united in marriage to Bertha Van Engelenburg at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Bertha passed away on Feb. 24, 1999. In 2001, he married Alice Fuhr in Texas. Harold was a faithful member of the Hollandale Reformed Church serving as an elder and deacon of the church. He was also a member of the Hollandale Fire Department. He enjoyed camping and fishing and helping with any church project or anyone who needed a hand. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Arizona and Texas. Harold’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Hollandale; daughter, Coleen Peterson of Hollandale; grandsons, Jeremy and Tyler Peterson of Hollandale; sister, Thelma Ruhnke of Texas; sister-in-law, Marge (David) Mutschler of Kiester; brother-in-law, Evert Van Engelenburg of Colorado; many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha; son, Donald; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Alice Van Engelenburg, Lloyd (Ole) and Betty Lou Allen, Russell and Henrietta Lovett, Doris Van Engelenburg, Harold G. Van Engelenburg and Wallace (Butch) Ruhnke.
