In just a few short weeks, the renovations at Cinema 7 in Northbridge Mall will be completed.

So far, the theater complex features new seating, freshly painted walls and new carpet.

There’s also new soundfold and wall carpet on the theater walls and new tiles in front of the concession stand.

“The hope is it will bring in people — just make it better for them,” said Trevor Kerns, theater manager.

Three of the original theaters haven’t been touched in 20 years, Kerns said.

During the next few weeks there will be new ceiling tile, along with finishes for an updated concession stand, too.

Kerns said he’s already received many compliments on the new seats and many of the other updates.

The theater originally began in Albert Lea in the 1980s with just three theaters, the manager said.

In the late 1990s, CEC Theatres bought the theater, after which four theaters were added on. Now it is a complex with seven theaters and state-of-the-art facilities.

It just recently opened all day for its summer hours.

Though Kerns could not specify the exact cost of the renovations, he described them as “substantial.” Each new chair cost $140, and Theaters 2 through 7 have continental seating.

The chairs have higher backs, are able to recline and are able to have the arm rests either up or down depending on preference.

Kerns said he is also anticipating some renovations to the restrooms at the facility in the end.

Cinema 7 is at 2510 Bridge Ave. It can be found at the same entrance as the food court in the mall and can be reached at 373-7039.
