Big 4th of July celebration on tap for Bricelyn

A car show, dances and fireworks will highlight the Bricelyn Fourth of July celebration this weekend.

“This is our time to shine, as far as Bricelyn goes and as far as my personal business goes,” Karen Melson, owner of Wildman’s Bar & Grill and a member of the community club.

The first annual car show will be held Sunday. Registration for the Drive Me Wild Car Show will be 9-11 a.m. Sunday at Wildman’s Bar & Grill. Judging will begin at noon, and the show will include trucks, cars, motorcycles and tractors. Melson said about 70 trophies for about 20 categories will be given out at awards at 3:30 p.m. There is a $15 entry fee. The first 50 cars receive a goody bag, and the first 100 receive a free dash plaque.

On Friday, there will be a teen dance in the park from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. From 8:30 to 12:30 p.m. there will be an adult dance at Legion featuring the band Somethin’ County.

Sub Highway 253 will give a concert at the football field starting at 8:30 p.m. at the football field Saturday, and they’ll follow that by playing patriotic music before the fireworks at dusk

“Bricelyn is known for its fireworks,” Melson said. “Absolutely terrific fireworks.”

After the fireworks Saturday night, Boss Grant and the Johnny Cash Revue Band will perform at Wildman’s Bar & Grill until 2 a.m. Cost is $3 and the show is for ages 21 and up.

“It brings a lot of people to town, and it makes our community kind of work together to get this event in place,” said Janet Peterson, a member of the community club.

A pool tournament will begin at the bar around 6 p.m. Friday and will continue Saturday.

Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, there will be a 5-kilometer run Saturday morning, with a 1-mile kid run and a mile fitness walk.

There will not be a softball tournament this year, but there will be a women’s volleyball tournament and a coed volleyball tournament.

A youth wrestling competition will be held in the tennis courts at 11 a.m. Saturday. Weigh-in will be at the fire station at 9:30 a.m.

The parade is at 1 p.m., with a horse show following at the Dr. Jack Peterson Arena. The mud bog will be around 1:30 p.m. south of the athletic field on Highway 253

Music and bingo will be in the park Saturday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, there will be a chicken barbecue at fire station lasting until the chicken is gone.

On Sunday morning, there will be a community worship in city park at 9 a.m., and there will be a pancake breakfast at the Legion from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Different organizations will run foodstands around town, and Bud’s Café will be open for lunch and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and calzones will be available at the bar Sunday during the car show.
