The second day of the 106th Minnesota Golf Association State Amateur tournament was cut short because of inclement weather, but Albert Lea’s Phil Schmidt got in enough holes to work himself into a three-way tie for 23rd overall.
Schmidt played 11 holes Tuesday and sits at 1-under with seven holes left to play in his round. He birdied the par-3 No. 2 and played bogey free the rest of the day.
Schmidt shot 77 on the first day and was 5-over par, tied for 56th overall.
Play was suspended at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and will resume at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The final round will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and it appears Schmidt has assured himself a spot in the final round.
Thomas Campell leads the tournament at 4-under after 31 holes. Sam Schmitz moved to second place after his round of 69 and is now at 2-under for the tournament. Schmitz is tied with Tom Hoge, who is 2-under after 31 holes.
