Ruby Boelman, 91

The funeral service for Ruby Zenita Boelman of New Richland will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Le Sueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. The Rev. Cary Larson will officiate. Internment will be at the St. Peter cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, and one hour before the service at the church.
Ruby died Monday Sept. 1, 2009, at the New Richland Care Center. She was 91 years old.
Ruby was born May 19, 1918, in Estherville, Iowa, to Harry Alvin and Elva Marie (Dauenbaugh) Kobernus. She attended elementary school at Estherville, junior high school at Oak Park, Ill., and high school in New Richland where she has lived most of her life. Ruby married Gerald Peter Boelman on May 5, 1943, at the parsonage for Le Sueur River Lutheran Church. Ruby was a member of the Le Sueur River Lutheran Church and was active in the church circles, taught Sunday school for 10 years, served as custodian with her husband for 12 years, belonged to the Altar Guild and enjoyed quilting with the church ladies. She worked in housekeeping for Land O’Lakes and New Richland High School. Ruby enjoyed gardening and quilting. She usually had an answer for everything and was very quick witted. Her most special enjoyment was her family.
Ruby is survived by three children: Merle Boelman of Eden Prairie, Perry Boelman and his wife Pat of Manassas, Va., and Sheryl Graves and her husband Dirk of Wells; four grandchildren: Eric Boelman, Anson Graves, Brandon Graves and his wife Jenny and Christopher Boelman; two great-grandchildren: Carson and Tyler Graves; sister, Lois Kapke, of Wells; brother-in-law, Clarence Boelman, and his wife, Mary Ann, of Goodyear, Ariz.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Boelman; infant son, Darrel, and brother, Merle Kobernus.
