Power 96 Radio was named the Large Business of the Year at the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce annual meeting Thursday evening at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
Classic Reflections Salon & Spa was named the Small Business of the Year.
And Marilyn Danielsen of 4 Seasons Vacations was named the Ambassador of the Year.
Power 96 is locally owned by Greg Jensen of Albert Lea.
The FM radio station, 109 E. Clark St., has a sales staff of seven and a crew of 15, according to its Web site.
“Being a resident and business owner in Freeborn County all of my life, I take great pride in this community’s potential and am always in search of ways to help it grow, stand apart and prosper,” Jensen said on the Web site.
“Nothing makes me prouder than hearing how much the people of the community love Power 96 and finding out that business prospers from promoting their product or service on Power 96. It makes me feel like my hard work, efforts and investment were all worth while,” he added.
Upon hearing the news of the award, Marketing Consultant Anna Rahn said, “We couldn’t be happier. It was a total honor. I was speechless at the award ceremony.”
Rahn said she is honored to be in the presence of all the people who work at the radio station and how much they unselfishly give back to the community.
Power 96 has grown over the years. It has been around for about 20 years in the area. In December of 2001, the station became locally owned, adding more local programming, news and sports.
Last year, KQAQ Classic Country Legends 970 AM was added.
Classic Reflections in Northbridge Mall is owned by Kari Fjeldberg of Albert Lea.
After starting out as a stylist in Mankato, she came to Albert Lea, where she’s since worked at Michael’s, Dinah’s Style and now Classic Reflections. She’s owned Classic Reflections for seven years.
Now, she goes to a minimum of three educational seminars a year to stay current on her training and to not get stylist burnout, she said.
As a business, Classic Reflections strives for customer service, she said. It tries to keep up with what’s current in the community, world and the salon industry.
It has free Wifi Internet and accounts on Facebook and e-mail.
Found at Northbridge Mall, the business is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
There are nine employees, including two massage therapists with the company. The company offers services including haircuts, hair colors, pedicures, manicures and ear coning, to name a few.
It offers products for every hair type, scalp type and skin type, Fjeldberg said.
