A memorial service for Richard “Dick” S. Wayne will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dick was born on April 20, 1948, in Albert Lea, to Stanley and Doris Wayne. He passed away at Rochester Methodist Hospital on Oct. 21, 2009, from complications arising from neuroendocrine cancer.
Dick graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1966 and from Winona State with an accounting major in 1971. He worked for various accounting firms until opening his own CPA office in 1978. He was a highly respected businessman and was actively involved in the Rochester community for over 30 years. He was a member of the following organizations: Rochester Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Club, the Rochester Golf and Country Club, The Downtown Rotary Club, YMCA and President of Camp Olson. He was on the Board of Directors for the Rochester Civic Theater and Sterling Banks.
Dick was a talented athlete all his life and an avid sports fan. He ran in numerous marathons including Grandma’s, Twin Cities, Chicago, New York, and Boston. He was very proud of his best finish of under three hours. He was an excellent golfer and won many championships including the Member-Member and the Sheldon at the Rochester Golf and Country Club. Dick loved fishing, boating, traveling, reading and spending time with family and friends. Dick worked hard and played hard! He was a loving son, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Dick is survived by his longtime partner, Barbara Hebel; his four children: Jason Wayne of Rochester, Shelley Wayne Bruton (Patrick) of Abilene, Texas, Matthew Wayne of St. Paul and Peter Wayne of Rochester; his four grandchildren: Pierce Wayne of New Prague and Annabel, Connor and Lauren Bruton of Abilene; brother, Chuck Wayne, his wife Kara and children Alec and Haley of Brooklyn Park; sister, Julie Carpenter, her husband Tom and their children Katrina and Ryan of Eugene, Ore.; and brother, Jon Wayne of Rochester; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Dick received a liver transplant in 2004 as part of his cancer treatment.
