All-area volleyball teams

All-area first team
Anna Schlaak, soph., NRHEG
Led all area players with 377 kills, tallied 112 solo blocks and led the panthers with 163 digs. Set the single-season school record for kills and is the all-time career leader in kills with 660 as a sophomore.
Alyssa Hagen, senior, NRHEG
Recorded 201 kills, 109 solo blocks and was second on the team with 135 digs. Hagen is fourth all-time in kills at NRHEG with 578 and second all-time in blocks with 374. She also is third all-time in service percentage with a 98.1 average for her career.
Kacie Phillips, junior, NRHEG
Became the single-season assist leader with 668 assists and moved up to third all-time in assists after her junior year. Phillips paced the dynamic Panther attack and was able to spread the ball effectively to find hitters around the court.
Darcy Nelson, senior, Lake Mills
Recorded 264 kills to lead team, tallied 165 digs and had a 90.3 percent service percentage and led the team to back-to-back regional final appearances. An all-conference first team member and an all-district player her senior year as she elevated her play as the lone returning starter from the previous season.
Kristine Kelly, senior, Albert Lea
Led the Tigers with 233 digs, was second in kills with 84, and had an 89 percent serving percentage. Tallied a season-high 54 digs against John Marshall in a 3-2 victory.
Kate Hartman, senior, Northwood-Kensett
A powerful 6-foot-1 hitter who led N-K with 207 kills and tallied a team-high 247 digs. Hartman was a go-to player for the Vikings on offense and came up with big digs on defense.
All-area second team
Morgan Fjelstad, soph., Lake Mills
Was the assist leader for the Bulldogs with 766, also tallied 140 digs. established the right pace for the Lake Mills offense and knew when a change was needed.
Kayla Stenzel, junior, USC
Led United South Central with 172 kills and 17 blocks. Named offensive player of the year for the Rebels in a season where she was moved from a middle hitter to an outside hitter.
Kenzie Martin, senior, Alden-Conger
An all-conference player who recorded 227 digs for the Knights, she also tallied 68 kills and 187 assists.
Kailey Davis, junior, Glenville-Emmons
Led team with 307 digs, she also had a team high 96.0 percent service percentage. An all-conference player for the second straight season, Davis was voted the team MVP
Bethany Sekora, junior, Albert Lea
Led the team in kills with 85, and recorded 23 ace blocks.
Kalli Van Ryswyk, junior, Glenville-Emmons
VanRyswyk led the Wolverines with 139 kills and 26 blocks and was often looked toward for offense. The junior’s height and leaping ability were an asset to Glenville-Emmons.
All-area third team
Carly Peterson, senior, USC
The Rebels’ libero led the team with 167 digs and was named the team’s MVP this season. Peterson was also the defensive player of the year for USC and served at an 89 percent clip.
Marielle Schultz, junior, USC
Replaced a talented setter capably — registering 402 assists this season. Schultz was also the team’s best serving with a 97 percent serving percentage.
Alayna Hall, junior, Glenville-Emmons
Hall recorded 58 kills, 10 blocks and 246 digs for the Wolverines while also providing the team with energy and tenacity around the court.
April Davies, senior, Glenville-Emmons
Davies had team high 268 assists, while recording 102 digs and was named all-conference honorable mention. Davies served at a 90 percent clip.
Katie Hallman, senior, Alden-Conger
A late decision to join the volleyball team was the right one for Hallman and the Knights this season. Hallman led Alden-Conger in kills with 179 and blocks with 35.
Danielle Koestler, junior, USC
Missed time with an ankle injury Koestler was still an important contributor to the Rebels. Koestler tallied 97 kills as an outside hitter and 87 digs while serving at 90 percent and 15 aces.
