Red Cross does much more than you know

As a relatively new member of the local American Red Cross board, I am amazed at the many things the Red Cross does with little or no awareness by the general public.
Did you know: That every time there is a situation, such as a fire that puts people out of their homes or apartments, the Red Cross is there to provide shelter, food and clothing for that family or families for the first three days after the emergency?
Did you know: That when weather causes major highways to be closed the Red Cross sets up and staffs shelters for the people who cannot get to their destinations?
Did you know: That the Red Cross acts as a link for families with someone in the military to relay family emergencies?
Did you know: That the Red Cross staffs and runs five blood drives so blood can be sent to our military personnel and our local and national blood banks?
Did you know: That the Red Cross is there to assist, if asked by the law enforcement, when there is a major accident on the highways?
Did you know: That the local Red Cross sends people to major disasters around the United States as well as to the major disasters like the tornadoes, floods and fires that have hit close to home?
Did you know: That the Red Cross makes and gives out comfort kits that will give people from disasters everything needed to start a new day such as soap, towels, toothbrush, etc. and toys for the children?
Did you know: That the Red Cross provides classes for youth in baby-sitting skills, and classes for anyone who needs or wants training in CPR and first aid?
Did you know: That all Red Cross volunteers need to be trained for every segment of their work from setting up shelters to working with military families? Each volunteer puts in many hours of training to be prepared for their volunteer work?
Did you know: That none of these services, food, clothing, shelter, travel, training and equipment could be provided without your generous donations to the Red Cross?
Just thought everyone should know that we have a local Red Cross that is very involved in our community and country!
