Albert Lea’s Tyler Brackey netted the game-winning goal Tuesday on a penalty shot in overtime to give the Tigers a 4-3 overtime victory over Waseca in Waseca.
“I thought it was going to be a tight game,” said Albert Lea head coach Roy Nystrom. “I think there’s going to be a lot of these types of games.”
The Bluejays (0-1) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 10:47 in the third period when Brad McIntosh scored.
Mason Tuohy and Troy Seberson gave the Tigers (1-0) a 2-0 lead in the second period and Casey Marka made it a 3-0 game 4 minutes into the third period.
But Waseca fought back after that, getting a goal just 53 seconds later and adding a goal from Rickie Spangler at 8:01 to draw to within one.
Albert Lea outshot the Bluejays 31 to 21.
The Tigers play Northfield Thursday at the City Arena.
