Gourmet auction, plays, breakfasts on tap for weekend

The 10th Annual Gourmet Auction sponsored by the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and Big Island Rendezvous will be held Friday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and at 6:30, people can start the tasting.

The silent auction runs from 6 to 7:25 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., the live auction action begins and continues throughout the evening! Tickets are $20 each or 2 for $30, and a table of ten is available for $150. To make reservations call the Chamber of Commerce at 373-3938. Money raised will be used for the 2010 Education Days at the Big Island Rendezvous and Festival and community projects of the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce.

Friday, Jan. 29

The Albert Lea Art Center’s All-Member Show will be open from noon to 4 p.m.

 Albert Lea is also hosting the South Subsection One-Act Play Contest. Other participating schools are Austin, Farmington and Winona. The competition begins at 4 p.m. with Albert Lea performing at 4:45 p.m. Two schools will advance to the section finals at Lakeville South on Feb. 4. This event is open to the public at no charge.

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre and Sibley Elementary School will present “Sleeping Beauty” at 7 p.m. at the Southwest Little Theater. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Saturday, Jan. 30

Northbridge Mall will hold a “Walk for Haiti Relief” fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. People can pick up pledge forms at the information booth in center court of the mall or simply make a donation. Walking moais as well as individuals are urged to come out. All proceeds go to Haitian relief.

Sunday, Jan. 31

 The Albert Lea VFW will hold a pancake breakfast at the American Legion Club from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage and beverage will be served. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for kids.

The Albert Lea Sons of Norway Lodge will hold a Norwegian rolled pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lodge near City Arena. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 5 to 12 years and preschoolers eat free. The event is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army Food Shelf.

 The Arc of Freeborn County will hold an all-you-can-eat Dad’s Belgian Waffles breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bethany Hall at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Tickets for adults are $6.50; for children 6 to 12 years, $4.50; and children 5 and younger eat free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Arc office, 407 E. William St. Tickets will also be available at the door.
