High unemployment is not for immigration

Let’s have an immigration moratorium. Let’s stop handing out green cards as long as the unemployment rate is over 6 percent.

Unemployment now is over 10 percent. Let’s do what many European and Asian democracies do — pay unemployed legal immigrants to leave. We could offer buyouts to people with green cards. Let’s pay the (cheapest possible, but quick) transportation home for illegal aliens in return for their fingerprints and the assurance they’ll wind up in prison if they ever come back.

Ten guest-worker programs are working. Sixty-five percent of these do disappear at the end of each year with more coming the next year.

Let’s get rid of the H-1B visa (indentured servant) program that has made high-tech careers a thing of the past for American students. Let’s end Ted Kennedy’s Diversity Visa Lottery that provides 50,000 green cards a year randomly to people from countries picked because they have the least ties and cultural association with the United States. These countries are also disproportionately terrorist-sponsoring. Illegal aliens residing here can apply and, in the way, obtain citizenship.

Let’s ban non-citizens from stimulus jobs. Let’s stop talking about amnesty. The United States of America should not be in the business of rewarding criminal behavior. These policies would actually do American citizens some good.
