Aaron Thies’ power-play goal in the third period gave Winona a 5-4 victory Tuesday over the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team in Winona.
The Tigers (7-9-1, 3-2 Big Nine) fell behind 3-1 in the first period when Winona’s Kyle Florin scored three times.
But Albert Lea responded in the second period with goals from Dillon Stolt, Casey Marka and J.T. Bellrichard to tie the game at 4 heading into the final period.
“It was a good game, a hard-fought game,” said Tigers head coach Roy Nystrom. “You have to give Winona credit.”
Albert Lea outshot the Winhawks (13-2, 5-0 Big Nine) 35-34.
The Tigers play 13th-ranked Faribault Thursday at City Arena.
