Brewster says Gophers QB job is open

The Minnesota football team is starting spring practice with the usual open competition at every position, and that includes quarterback.
Senior Adam Weber has been the starter the last three seasons, but coach Tim Brewster says sophomore MarQueis Gray will have a chance to win the job.
Brewster held a news conference on Monday. He also mentioned redshirt freshman Moses Alipate as a candidate.
Last year, Weber struggled. Gray saw some action as a runner and a receiver as well as a passer, taking some snaps in relief of Weber here and there. But Brewster says the Gophers won’t “piecemeal” the quarterback position this season. He is challenging Gray to increase his grasp of the offense and be more careful with the ball.
