I-90 in Austin will open Monday

All lanes of eastbound Interstate 90 through Austin, from U.S. Highway 218 North to Highway 218 South/21st Street, closed Friday at 7 p.m. and remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday at 5 a.m., according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The closure is needed to ensure motorist safety during the removal of the flyover bridge connecting westbound I-90 to Oakland Place Northeast.
Motorists traveling eastbound I-90 should follow the posted detour route:
North on Highway 218 (Exit 177)
Turn right at Highway 30 and proceed east
Turn right at Highway 56 and proceed south to I-90
Motorists are advised that the detour route is approximately 45 miles. This route was selected to ensure that a viable detour route is maintained through the area in the event of a flood. Local traffic may access eastbound I-90 using the ramp at Oakland Place Northeast, which will remain open during the weekend.
Residents in the area are advised that construction activities, including bridge demolition, will be taking place around-the-clock during the weekend. Noise and vibrations may be associated with these activities.
Lunda Construction is the primary contractor for this $12.8 million-dollar project, which includes four bridge replacements in two years.
