Want to learn how to live healthier by eating and cooking well?
Join Albert Lea Hy-Vee Dietitian Amy Pleimling’s cooking club. Cooking classes, each on a different topic, will be offered monthly beginning in May. For more information and to register visit Albert Lea Area Community Education’s Web site at http://es.albertlea.k12.mn.us/commed/ or call 379-4834.
The May class will be “Healthy Desserts,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 13 in the Albert Lea High School Creative Foods Room, D202. This class will feature fun and tasty dessert recipes that have been “lightened up” in some way from their original recipe. Depending on the class size, participants will make or get recipes for grilled berry sundaes, tofu chocolate mousse, black bean brownies, frozen blackberry lemon chiffon pie, cream cheese pound cake, and strawberries and cream. The cost of this class is $14.
The June class will be “Hy-Vee Take and Bake Night,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 24 at the Albert Lea Hy-Vee. Class participants will get the opportunity to assemble three healthy meals to take home in containers for the refrigerator or freezer. Each meal will serve up to six people. The healthy meals include ginger and brown sugar glazed salmon, teriyaki pork fajita meals, and grilled chicken with rustic mustard cream and asparagus. The cost of this class is $70.
