Duncan Deaver, 88, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and formerly of Albert Lea, died peacefully at his daughter’s home in St. Ansgar on April 21, 2010. His body has been cremated and Graveside Services will be Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa, with the Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council and burial will follow. Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone, Iowa, on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday at the funeral chapel from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
Duncan was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Sabetha, Kan., the son of Coral and Almeda (Wittwer) Deaver. He married Mary Williams on Aug. 23, 1945, in San Diego, Calif. Duncan served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Western Star #26 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Albert Lea, a member of the V.F.W., and also the Marine Corps League. Duncan worked for Safeway, Inc. for over 50 years, working in the Boone, Ames, and Onawa, Iowa, stores.
Duncan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; two sons: Fredrick and David; a sister, Betty Tregaskes; and a granddaughter, Susan Pickrel.
He is survived by four daughters: Mary Ann Taylor and husband Barry of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Kathy Lonergan and husband Dave of Stillwater, Okla., Edra Fouts and husband Steve of Norwalk, Iowa, and Nancy Moore of Lake Mills, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Andrew (Karen) Bowman, Jacob (Melissa) Reynoldson, Brenda Huff, Michael (Valerie) Fouts, Jill Fouts, Jennifer (Scott) Lefton, Caitlin Moore, and Mariah Moore; three great grandchildren: Dakota Fouts, Dayton Fouts, and Emily Huff; and a sister, Carol Hall, of Howell, Mich. He will be sorely missed by his beloved Boston Bulldog, Miss Holly.
