Larry D. Nelson, 68, died Friday, May 28, 2010, at his home in Emmons.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood, Iowa, with the Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating.
Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, Iowa, and again at the church Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment will take place at Silver Lake Cemetery in rural Northwood, Iowa.
Larry Duane Nelson was born June 20, 1941, on Grandpa Ferley’s farm, in rural Worth County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Arlene Ruth (Ferley) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church.
Larry attended Silver Lake country school and Northwood Community School and was a member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church.
On Oct. 21, 1962, Larry was united in marriage to Bernette Hagen at Lunder Lutheran Church in Twin Lakes.
Larry loved his family and grandchildren. He was an avid bird watcher, loved sunsets and always wanted to be outside. His favorite pastime was “piddling in his shop.”
Larry is survived by his loving family: his wife Bernette of Emmons; daughters, Sue (Don) Reyerson of Oelwien, Iowa; Shelley (Greg) Yocom of Austin; son Tracy (Cherrie) Nelson of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Laura Madson and her fiancé Shawn, Andy Reyerson and his fiancé Darci, Joseph Reyerson, Benjamin Nelson, Hunter Yocom and Brandon Nelson; sister Julie Nelson of Hadley, Mass.; brothers Gene Nelson of Joice, Iowa, and Dennis Nelson of Mason City, Iowa; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Arlene, and one sister Marilyn King.
