A Northwood man died Wednesday in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 35.

David Leegaard, 33, died a mile south of the Joice exit of Interstate 35 at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Mason City office of the Iowa State Patrol.

The report lists his passenger, Desiree Miller, 27, Northwood, as being injured. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Mason City by ambulance.

The Iowa State Patrol report states the two were northbound on I-35 on the 1985 Yahama motorcycle when Leegaard lost control because of an engine malfunction. The motorcycle came to a rest on the shoulder of the road with Leegaard pinned beneath it.

The report lists the location as mile 207 on I-35.

Assisting were deputies from sheriff’s offices from Worth and Cerro Gordo counties.
