Here are highlights in history for Aug. 5, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — Farmfest ’86 was held in Lake Crystal on Aug. 7, 8 & 9. Special guests and performers were Loretta Lynn and Mel Tillis.
1976 — Ronnie Milsap intended to be a lawyer but became a singer and piano player instead. Milsap was one of the entertainers at the Freeborn County Fair.
1956 — Firemen from seven area departments fought a fire that caused $100,000 damages to the Clarks Grove Lumber Co.
