Here are highlights in history for Aug. 9, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1993 — Albert Lea Council 1590 of the Knights of Columbus would be sponsoring the appearance of the Carson and Barnes Five-Ring Circus the following day.
1983 — A Tribune photo featured Mayor Walt Roberts of Glenville and Mayor LeRoy Roberts of Emmons. The two mayors were brothers.
1953 — The St., Theodore’s team was in first place in the local church softball league after defeating Freeborn Lutheran with a score of 15-0. (The report did not specify if this was West, Central, North or East Lutheran Church.)
